Crafting a Fiesta: Fun and Easy Cinco de Mayo Crafts for Kids

Each year on May 5, Cinco de Mayo, which literally translates to “the fifth of May,” celebrates the victory of a small Mexican army over French forces in 1862. A yearly celebration, it is meant to inpire patriotism, courage, and inner strength.


Cinco de Mayo becomes the perfect opportunity for parents to introduce fun activities for kids. So, in honor of the feast, we have a few holiday activities and crafts for kids.

 

Like St. Patrick’s Day celebration, Cinco de Mayo also exposes kids to diverse cultures and traditions. And, with Cinco de Mayo activities, kids will get a chance to learn and understand symbols important and relevant to the Cinco de Mayo fiesta.

So, here are a few fun Cinco de Mayo activities for kids. The activities include a fun Cinco de Mayo-themed board game and a few crafts for kids.

 

3 Fun activities for kids on Cinco de Mayo

 

Cute cactus crafts for kids

 

What you need:

  • Empty toilet paper roll
  • Green colored paper
  • Scissors
  • Glue
  • Ruler
  • Green marker
  • Black marker

 

Steps for the Cinco de Mayo cactus crafts for kids:

  • Keep all the materials ready
  • Measure the length of the roll on the green paper and cut the paper keeping 2cm space from the top and bottom of the roll on the paper
  • Cover the roll with the paper and cut the extra parts on the top and bottom as shown in step 3
  • Fold the extra 2cm green paper and glue it to the inside of the roll
  • Draw the shapes for the cactus hands. (Draw the hands keeping christmas stocking in mind)
  • Cut out the hands for the cactus
  • Draw vertical lines on the body and the hands of the cactus. Draw the eyes and mouth on the cactus’ body
  • Glue the hands on the body by folding the tip of the hands a little

There you go! You have cute Cinco de Mayo cactus for your kids.

 

Cinco de Mayo maraca crafts for kids

 

What you need:

  • Deep Plastic spoons
  • Cereal
  • Colored tapes
  • Aluminium foil
  • Scissors
  • Small container
  • Tape
  • Decoration (optional)

 

Steps for the Cinco de Mayo maraca craft for kids:

  • Keep all the materials for the craft ready
  • You can either use a small container to put the cereal in or use a deep-shaped plastic spoon and fill it with cereal
  • Keep the spoons facing each other and tape them together. Make sure the spoons have cereal inside them
  • Cover the spoons with aluminum foil and secure them with colorful tapes
  • Cover the taped spoons with any decorations you like, like glitter or cut-out triangles

There you have it! Make more maraca crafts and decorate them as you like.
