Kids love masks—be it Halloween or costume day in school! From their favorite superheroes to animals of the jungle, they love to wear masks goof around, and it’ll be so fun for your kids to make their own.

So, let's make these super simple DIY animal masks together at home!

Elephant mask

You will need:

  • White A4 sheet or white cardstock
  • Acrylic paint/crayons (pink, black, blue)
  • Transparent tape
  • Elastic string
  • Scissors
  • Hole punch

Steps:

  • Print out the mask template on and paste it on cardstock
  • Paint all the pieces—blue for the face and trunk, pink for ears and tongue, and black for the rest of the mouth
  • Let the paint dry, and then cut out all the pieces
  • Cut out the holes for the eyes
  • Place transparent tape over the marked holes to reinforce it (tape the holes from front to back)
  • Punch holes on the pair of circles
  • Glue the ears and trunk. Glue only the top of the trunk so the mouth is visible when you lift it up
  • Tie a knot on the back of the mask around the hole with elastic string

There you have it! Wear your elephant mask and make practice trumpet sounds.

Lion mask

You will need:

  • Paper plates
  • Yellow, orange, and brown colored sheets
  • Scissors
  • Glue

Steps:

  • Cut the center part of a paper plate to make a hole big enough to fit your child's face
  • Cut the yellow, orange, and brown paper into multiple strips
  • Glue the paper strips around the rim of the paper plate in brown, yellow, and orange order. (you can choose any order of colors)
  • Roll the end of each strip into small curls. You can use crayons to roll the strips

That's it! You're done. Now use the lion mask to act out a story or simply ROARRR!!!

Bear mask

You will need:

  • Paper plate
  • A stick, twig, or straw
  • Scissors
  • Paint (brown)
  • Black permanent marker
  • Glue

 Steps to do it:

  • Cut the paper plate in half
  • Cut two penny-sized holes for the eyes on one half of the paper plate
  • Use the other half to cut out 3 ritz-cracker-sized circles—two bear ears and one mouth
  • Paint the paper plate with eye holes brown
  • Paint ears white in the middle and brown on the border (as shown in the picture)
  • Glue the ears behind the paper plate and the mouth below the eyes in the center
  • Draw an inverted triangle with a black marker for the bear's nose
  • Glue the stick or a straw to the back on one end of the plate to hold it up

You got yourself a bear mask. You can even make a rabbit or fox using the same technique. Have fun!
