Fall is here! The windy days with a sharp nip in the air call for a change in the clothes we wear and even the food we eat. Since a lot of time will be spent indoors, how about we make a nice little windsock that you can hang near a window or outside? The breeze gently sways it, adding a dash of color to any space.
A rainbow windsock is easy to make and elegant in its simplicity. Here are a few quick steps to make a rainbow windsock with stuff around the house.
What your child learns through this activity: full-sized windsocks are used to determine wind speed and direction. With this DIY, you can teach your little one how they are used in airports to help pilots understand the wind and prepare for it when they take off and land. Windsocks are also used in chemical plants as risk indicators of gas leaks. When your child sees their windsock, they can learn about the breeze, its direction, and how it changes through the day.
You can also add bells or beads at the end of ribbons to give it a wind chime look. If not rainbow, you can choose any color combination.
There you have it! A beautiful rainbow-themed windsock.
