Finger painting is a great way for children to explore, create, and learn through sensory play. Fun, easy, finger painting activities encourage cognitive development and improve your child’s fine motor skills. Also, it’s always so much fun to use our fingers to paint!
So let’s begin with some of these awesome finger painting activities!
The hungry caterpillar
You will need–
A sheet of paper
Non-toxic kid-safe paint– green, pink, blue, red, brown, and yellow
Black pencil
Steps to do it:
Draw a sun using yellow paint in the top-left corner
Dip your pointer finger in green paint and make 7-8 adjoining finger dots in a slightly linear/curvy way for the caterpillar’s body
Dip your middle finger in the red paint and make a dot to make the caterpillar’s head in front of the green dots
At the bottom of the page, make dots using different colors randomly
When the paint dries, use a pencil to draw caterpillar eyes, antennae on the head, and two legs below each of the green dots
There you have it—the hungry caterpillar!
Tips to keep in mind before you start finger painting activities–
You can either make paint at home or make sure to buy child-safe finger paints
To protect your child’s clothes from getting ruined, you can either make them wear an apron or have them wear old clothes
Lay down a painting mat on the table or floor before you start this activity
If this is the first time your child will finger paint, it’s better if you pour finger paints onto paper plates–one color per plate
Keep baby wipes or paper towels handy to wipe off any spills
Keep all things handy, so you don’t have to run around the house to find something after you’ve started, especially with paint on your hands
Have lots and lots of fun!
