Math skills are essential for your child in school, and teaching them through fun and playful activities makes it simple and easy; they also get hands-on experience while learning to count.

Here's a free printable you can download and give your child.

What your child learns from the DIYs: Kindergarteners are still getting familiar with recognizing and writing numbers, so to give them more practice writing numbers and improving their skills, you can engage them in fun activities at home.

DIY counting with modeling dough

You will need:

  • Modeling dough (you can use multiple colors)
(You can use pom poms or buttons as well)
  • Our printable counting sheets (you can laminate them for multiple uses)

Steps for the DIY:

Lay the counting sheet on a flat surface like a table or even the floor.

Roll out the modeling clay in the shape of a number.

Place the number-shaped clay on the shape of the number on the sheet.

(If you’re using pom poms or buttons, simply arrange them on the numbers. Avoid sticking pom poms so your child can use the number sheets later)

Make small balls out of the clay (you can use multiple colors). For the sheet with the number 1, place 1 ball on the tree, and the first square.

Do the same for all the numbers. Increase the number of balls as you advance through the number sheets.

Tip: Ask your child to count loudly every time they place the balls on the sheet to practice counting.

There you go! Awesome number tracing activities for kindergarteners. Download the printable and let your child have fun!
