Summer is a time for fun in the sun, outdoor activities, and quality time with family and friends. With school out and longer days, children have more time to explore, play, and get creative. So, one of the best ways to keep kids engaged and entertained during summer is through crafting.

Summer crafts for kids not only provide a fun activity but also allow kids to use their imagination and develop new skills. From tie-dye to beach-themed projects, there are endless possibilities for summer crafts that will keep your kids busy and happy throughout the season.

If you’re looking for a fun and creative summer activity to do with your kids, why not try making a DIY paper spinner? This simple and easy-to-follow craft is a great way to teach kids about color theory and paper crafts.

By following a few simple steps, you and your kids can create a colorful and mesmerizing paper spinner that will provide hours of entertainment. Below, we'll show you how to make your own paper spinner at home, using just a few materials you probably already have lying around.

So grab your paper, scissors, and markers, and let's get crafting!

Materials needed:

  • Download and print out the printable template
  • Cardboard sheets (old delivery boxes can be used as well)
  • String (around 28-inches long)
  • Scissors
  • Glue

Steps to make a paper spinner:

  • Cut out the spinner designs from the printable template
  • Use glue to stick the circles from the printable onto the cardboard sheet
  • Trace the circle on the cardboard sheet and cut it out in a circular shape using scissors
  • Stick the second circle from the printable on the back of the cardboard sheet
  • Poke two holes in the center of the cardboard sheet using the markings provided in the template
  • Take the string and run it through the holes, then tie a knot
  • Hold a piece of string in each hand with the spinner in the middle
  • Begin rotating the string in circles to twist it
  • Pull the string, then relax and pull again to make the spinner spin

Now that you have made your very own paper spinner, it's time to have some fun spinning it!

Spin it fast, spin it slow, experiment with different colors, and see how long it can keep spinning. It's a perfect summer craft for kids that enhances their creativity and understanding of color theory.

Fun fact: Similar spinners are used by doctors in some parts of the world to help diagnose diseases. The spinners work as makeshift, electricity-free centrifuges, separating blood samples for study in places where medical labs are not easily accessible.

Who knew a simple paper craft could have such practical applications!
