Colorful pom poms make everything look so bright and cute. Stick them on your pencils, make a bouquet out of them, line a picture frame or fridge magnets–pompoms add cuteness everywhere they go.

If you're planning to add a splash of color to your kid's bedroom and brighten it up, this cute DIY pompom rug will be a perfect addition and fun to make!

What your child learns through this activity: a great way to practice fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination. Playing with different colors, sorting them, and gluing them also helps children build their visual perception and thinking skills.1 Gluing these pom poms in a particular order can also be a fun way to boost children's memory skills.

So let's find out what items you'll need and how to make them.

How to make a DIY pompom rug at home?

Things you'll need:

  • Printable Template
  • Heavy fabric base or carpet base if available
  • Pom poms (depending on the size of the rug, you might need quite a few)
  • Glue (hot glue works well, but you will need to help your child with it)

Steps to make the DIY pompom rug:

  • Lay the heavy fabric or cardboard base down
  • Paste template on base (Download template here
  • Trim edges
  • Assign colors to numbers, eg: 1= Red, 2 = Pink, 3 = Yellow, 4 = Orange, 5 = Purple, 6 = Blue, 7 = Green
  • Glue pompoms along the lines
  • You're all done! (To make the rug sturdy, simply sew the pompoms to the base after the glue dries)

There you have it! An adorable pompom rug!

You can also follow the same steps for rugs of any size. If you have a pet, this rug will make the perfect resting spot for them!
