Fly High with DIY Airplanes: Fun Summer Crafts for Kids

If your kids are into building toys, why not make a summer craft and take it to the next level by making something that can actually fly? 

 

In the summer months, it can be quite harsh on little ones, and you might prefer them to be indoors or play in the shade as much as possible. So, why not take this opportunity and make it super fun for them? We have curated a few super fun and engaging summer activities for kids. Here is how your little one can enjoy a DIY airplane from the printable

  • Download and print out the printable template of the airplane design, including a bonus sheet of reward stickers.
  • Give the activity sheets to your kids and help them complete the DIY airplane
  • Assist them if they need your help
  • Cut out different airplane-themed reward stickers and give them to your child when they finish making the airplane from cardboard on their own.
  • Remember to have lots of fun!

 

How to make an airplane

 

 


You will need:

  • Printable template of the airplane
  • Cardboard sheet (you can use heavy card stock as well)
  • Colorful markers, crayons, or paint
  • Scissors
  • Glue
  • Craft knife
  • Black marker
  • Pencil

 

Steps to follow to make an airplane at home

  • Cut out the airplane template and glue it to the cardboard sheet.
  • Trace the airplane parts with a pencil and cut out the airplane shape from the cardboard sheet.
  • Cut out the slots of each of the parts where needed with a craft knife (with adult supervision).
  • Color and decorate the airplane in any way you want.
  • Insert the wing piece into the middle of the plane.
  • Slide the engines and wheels into the slots of both wings.
  • Insert the tail in the slot that is at the back of the airplane.
  • Make sure all of the pieces are aligned and centered.
  • Test it out by launching it in the air a few times.
  • Adjust the alignment if needed.

 

There you go! You’ve got yourself a colorful and attractive little airplane that actually flies!
