If your little one has just started to learn about the solar system, this DIY could be a great learning experience and fun too! It also works as a great last-minute costume idea for you and your child!

What your child learns: with this DIY, your child can learn how there are 7 more planets other than earth revolving around the Sun. The idea is to get your child interested in Earth's sibling planets, their names, order, and makeup.

Ten fun facts about our solar system:

  • “Solar” describes everything related to our Sun-- “Solis” is Latin for Sun.
  • Mercury is the only planet that has no atmosphere and no moon.
  • Venus isn't the closest planet to the Sun but it is still the hottest solar planet.
  • Earth, or “Terra,” is the largest rock in the solar system.
  • Mars is called the red planet because of the rusty iron on its surface.
  • Jupiter is so large that you can just spot it in the night sky; ancient peoples knew about Jupiter because you didn't need telescopes to see it.
  • All four giant planets (Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune) have rings around them, but Saturn's rings are the largest and most beautiful.
  • Except for Venus and Uranus, which rotate east to west, all the other planets rotate west to east.
  • Neptune is the only planet not visible to the naked eye when seen from Earth.
  •  There are more than 200 moons in the solar system.
