Some of you may have Valentine’s Day plans with your partner, but let’s not forget the little ones in the house.

While you don’t need any particular holiday to show love for your children, Valentine’s week could be that special time when you could go one step further and demonstrate how small acts of appreciation and love can go a long way.

Here are a few easy ways to make Valentine’s Day special for your child.

Five ways to make Valentine’s Day special for your child

Wake them up with a Valentine’s Day card

Make a card and write down why you love your child, like “I love you because you’re kind,” “I love you because you’re brave,” and so on. Make sure to decorate your card with lots of glitter and hearts. Insert this card in an envelope, add a few treats, and hang it with a string on your child’s doorknob. This way, your child wakes up to a sweet surprise.

If your child is too young to read, read out the card to your child.

Make a heart-themed breakfast

Children often love different-shaped food, especially if they look like an animal or a character they like. You may have seen videos where, with a few carrot sticks, pancakes, and boiled eggs, a child’s lunch looks like the shape of a cat or a dog. But you don’t have to sweat it out in the kitchen; simple heart-shaped pancakes will do the trick! You can even use cookie cutters to shape a sandwich or just about anything on their plate for just a little something extra. This can even be the start of a whole new tradition in your home.

Make Valentine’s crafts

Get your craft bin out and make cards for family members and friends. Remember, it’s the thought that counts! You can make a Love Jar or a pop-up Valentine’s card with help from your child.

Bake Valentine’s Day goodies

Cooking with children can be a great time for bonding and teaching in the kitchen. You could bake cookies or a Valentine’s Day special cake with your child.

Snuggle up for a movie

Valentine’s Day is a great opportunity to snuggle up on the couch to watch your child’s favorite movies. Wear matching pajamas, eat popcorn, drink hot chocolate, and have a wonderful evening.

These are just a few ideas. Valentine's Day can be special for your child if you make it personal. Do things your child likes most, so it can be a memorable day for them. The above ideas can also be done on any regular weekend, but you can add red heart-shaped cards, letters, cookies, and crafts to make Valentine's Week special.
